NRUS is delighted to announce the arrival of its new Welfare Officer, Andrea Alexander, who has been in post since 9 June 2025. In her first month she has:
- Made 21 welfare calls to members
- Attended 3 Monday afternoon social events
- Met with members of the Northwood & Ruislip Network
- Confirmed 15 volunteers to assist with welfare issues
- Attended a meeting with Paperweight and confirmed a date for a talk to members in September about their Eldercare Hub
- Met with the United Synagogue Chesed team at Head Office
- Ordered Chesed parcels where required from the Bushey Hub
- Attended a meeting at Chai in Hendon and gained a better understanding of their work
- Attended training on C-POMS the United Synagogue’s new database for safeguarding reporting
- Liaised extensively with US safeguarding team regarding DBS requirements to ensure that any volunteers are properly checked
- Devised a contact form for members who have a welfare concern either about themselves or a fellow member
Over the next few weeks Andrea plans to:
- Confirm more volunteers ahead of Rosh Hashanah and allocate welfare calls
- Arrange delivery of honey cakes for Yom Tov
- Develop closer working relationship with the Bushey Chesed hub
- Liaise with other shuls to find out more about the programmes they offer
- Establish a contact with each local Citizens Advice Bureau
- Promote a presentation from Paperweight talk on 15 September and arrange logistics
- Liaise with our appointed Jewish Care social worker
