Last night we paid tribute to all those who perished during the Holocaust of World War II.
This year’s HMD marked the 80th Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, concentration camp. The theme this year was ‘For a better future – Light into darkness’.
A packed audience heard Bernice Krantz introduce the event and welcome our Guest Speaker, Jacques Cowan, who related his story of his family at war story. A battle for survival and family turmoil that stretched far into the post-war years.
Robin Kantor recited the Memorial Prayer followed by a short reading.
The lighting candle ceremony was led by Jacques Cowan, Bernice Krantz and Robin Kantor followed by Representatives of the Holocaust Learning UK, The Ark Synagogue, Northwood, Carry Sherman and members of Jacques family. This illustrates the survival into following generations.
The event finished with a ‘Minutes Silence’ and the Hatikvah.
