Lord Eric Pickles’ address
Reciting the Memorial Prayer
Lighting memorial candles
Lord Eric Pickles was introduced by Henry Grunwald KC. He shared his thoughts on holocaust remembrance, education and the challenges currently being faced in our post truth world where denial is on the rise. After the event Ingrid Segal thanked Lord Pickles for his carefully considered and insightful address.
He warned that Holocaust remembrance is entering a critical moment as the last survivors pass from living memory. Speaking at a Yom HaShoah commemoration in Northwood and Ruislip, he said remembrance must be more than ritual, arguing that memory without responsibility risks becoming hollow.
